Life raising someone with special needs is taxing. Certain aspects of the parenting effort are relentless in nature - no let up, constant, concerted and difficult effort. Physical exhaustion, from long days and nights of some times around the clock care. Emotional strain from developmental set backs, or the strain of people's unfeeling comments and perceptions of your child. Spiritual weakness due to the lack of facilitation by the church. All these symptoms are common to these families. They need respite.
A simple three hours of child care so mom and dad can have a date, or helping a single mom with her yard work, these are simple things that TEF provides to bear the burden. Simple yet profound things that make a difference in the lives of these families, if only for a couple hours at a time. TEF respite services take shape through our volunteers, other organizations and churches.
