Disabilities in much of the world are under-serviced and, at times, shunned by governments and peoples. A pervasive culture of death dictates the worth of a child by how much he or she contributes to society rather than the fact that the child has a life worth living and worthy of investment.
Although there are many countries whose orphanages and streets are full of children in need, TEF’s focus is on former Eastern Block countries. A country like Bulgaria has so much need but is so little serviced. In Bulgaria the abortion rate nearly exceeds the birth rate, a recent documentary expose’ has been done by BBC showing the deplorable conditions in its orphanages for special needs, almost half the people live at or below the poverty line and access to the country is difficult. The need is great.
The goal of this project is to provide remedial training to the ministry teams of Christian Bible Church. In accomplishing this goal we hope to see the work to continue indigenously with Urkainian believers serving the disabled population around them and expanding that work to include training other believers in other communities to minister to the disabled and bring the Gospel to them.
TEF works with small teams of people to access these sites and work with local churches and officials to provide care for children. Our teams consist of volunteers with varying skill sets - doctors, dentists, physical therapists, etc. The goal is to build small but productive inroads to a country and train the indigenous peoples to carry on the work.
Our teams are self supporting either directly through the individual going or through his/her own fund raising efforts.
